Due to dangerously cold weather (and the possibility of wind chills in the -30 degree range) and for the safety of all involved in/with the Winter Festival Event, the decision was made to move the Winter Festival Event scheduled for Saturday February 4, 2023 to Sunday February 5, 2023 from 11 am to 3 pm at Burr Pond State Park in Torrington .
The 17th annual Winter Festival Event sponsored by CT DEEP’s No Child Left Inside® Program in partnership with Fish with CARE and the City of Torrington will be held on Sunday February 5, 2023 at Burr Pond State Park in Torrington, CT (beach area) from 11 am to 3 pm. The NCLI Winter Festival is free and registration is not required; everyone is welcome to attend. Activities planned for the day, depending on outdoor conditions, include winter games, bonfires, outdoor play, marshmallow roasting, winter hikes, visits from Resources in Search and Rescue as well as CT Valley Siberian Husky Club, and more. While this year’s winter conditions didn’t provide ice for ice fishing, DEEP’s Fish with CARE staff and volunteer instructors will be on hand to demonstrate and teach ice-fishing techniques. Dress for the cold weather, including footware and bring a sense of fun adventure. There will a variety of interesting outdoor activities for the family to experience together. CT Boy Scout Troop 1 will also be selling food at the event (cash only).
There will be parking on-site as well as 2 shuttles circulating between Burr Pond State Park on Burr Mountain Road in Torrington; RBC Aircraft Products at 2866 Winsted Road, Torrington, CT; Burrville Fire Training School on Burr Mountain Road, and the Burr Pond Boat Launch Ramp at 600 Burr Mountain Road in Torrington. Shuttles will be available starting at 10:30 am until the last shuttle leaves Burr Pond State Park at 3:30 pm. One shuttle will be handicapped accessible.
